A charming pair of late 19th-century English stoneware bottles by George Skey & Co. of Wilnecote Works, Tamworth, Staffordshire, England.
The two bottles are the same distinctive form in graduated sizes, each with the unusual flared, scalloped opening. The smaller bottle retains a clearly visible impressed George Skey/Tamworth maker’s mark near the base, while the mark on the larger bottle is substantially worn, with only a faint portion of the oval remaining.
Believed to have been made as ink bottles, these are wonderful examples of everyday Victorian objects that have become beautiful decorative pieces with age. Display them together on a shelf or cabinet, or use them to hold a few dried stems.
Large: approximately 7½” tall
Small: approximately 5¾” tall
Both show age-appropriate surface wear and imperfections consistent with their age and former use. Please see photos for condition and the varying visibility of the maker’s marks. No chips or cracks.
