A gorgeous vintage Monteith-style rose bowl with incredible detail and old-world character.
This petite but substantial bowl features a deeply fluted body, ornate grape and foliate decoration, four lion-mask ring handles, a scalloped crown-like rim, and a beautifully detailed pedestal base. The interior has a warm brass-toned finish with natural variation and wear that adds to its vintage character.
The Monteith form originated in the late 17th/early 18th century, and examples like this were produced as later revivals. This piece is attributed to Corbell & Co., known for their mid-century reproductions of historic English forms, although the original maker’s label/mark is no longer present.
The bowl has lovely age-related patina and areas of wear to the silver plating, including some warm brass-toned areas showing through. I have intentionally left the finish with its natural character rather than aggressively polishing it.
A wonderful piece for displaying flowers, seasonal botanicals, or simply styling on a bookshelf, dresser, console, or tabletop.
